Creator Abstract: Born in Bavaria in 1833, Martin Muench immigrated to Texas in 1853 and settled in San Antonio the following year. He became a prominent merchant in San Antonio and served as a city alderman. Muench was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1869. He died in San Antonio between 1880 and 1887 and was survived by his wife and eight children.

Biographical Note

Born in Bavaria (Germany) in 1833, Martin Muench immigrated to Texas in 1853. The following year he arrived in San Antonio, where he married Prussian Margareta Gimbel (1836-1924) in 1858 March. The couple had eight children: Ferdinand E. (1859-1909), Martin J. (born circa 1860), Charles H. (1865-1915), Joseph E. (born circa 1866), Louis V. (1867-1924), Anna K. (1868-1940), Barbara Pauline (1872-1961), and Kate (1874-1964). Muench became a prominent merchant in San Antonio and served as a city alderman. He was naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 1869 and died in San Antonio between 1880 and 1887.
