Biographical NoteA native of England, Elizabeth Coxhead Carleton (1816-1891) came to Texas in 1835 with her husband, Dr. William Carleton, a participant in the Texas Revolution. After leaving the state in 1836, the family returned to Texas in 1856, where Mrs. Carleton remained for the rest of her life.
