Beauregard Bryan was born in Brazoria County, Texas, on 1862 January 16 to Moses Austin and Cora Lewis Bryan. He received his college education at Baylor University and the University of Texas, where he studied law.
Bryan established a legal practice in Brenham, Texas, in 1885 and served as city attorney, district attorney, and district judge during his residence there. He moved to El Paso in 1902, continuing his law practice until his death on 1918 March 4.
Beauregard Bryan's family included a number of early Texas settlers. His father, Moses Austin Bryan, was the nephew of Stephen F. Austin and served as Austin's personal secretary. His cousin, Hally Ballinger Bryan Perry, co-founded the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in 1891. After her father's death in 1901, Perry, together with Bryan, became executors of the Stephen F. Austin papers, which they presented to the University of Texas at Austin. Bryan participated in the documentation of his ancestry in historical publications and served as vice-president of the Texas State Historical Association for ten years. He was also a member of the University of Texas Board of Regents for twelve years.
Bryan married Lillian A. Lyles at Mobile, Alabama, on 1886 December 23; the couple had three children.

Series 1: Legal and business papers |
|
The great majority of the collection is contained within this series and connected with Bryan's private law practice. It consists primarily of correspondence. Letters which have been identified with a particular client or case are grouped together under a descriptive heading supplied during arrangement. The remaining letters are arranged alphabetically as miscellaneous legal and business correspondence. The letters cover a variety of types of cases, including a number of suits for recovery of debt, estates, property matters, and damage claims. Some legal documents are included with the letters. The amount of information contained in the letters varies widely, and many refer to routine matters. |

Series 3: Family and personal papers |
|
This series gathers letters related to family and personal matters. Included are a number of letters from Bryan's uncle, Guy M. Bryan, referring to political issues, business matters, and family matters. These letters and others in this group also refer to the possible purchase of the Henry McArdle painting "The Log Cabin." Two transcripts of letters written by Bryan's father, Moses Austin Bryan, describing his arrival in Houston in 1839 and events of the Texas revolution are included. Letters of family members which refer solely to business and legal matters are part of the Legal and Business Papers series. |
