A native of Tennessee who eventually settled in Texas, Kathryn E. Jones began gathering information on the Crockett family in 1972 when she discovered a close family connection to Tennessee congressman and Alamo hero David Crockett. Her wide-ranging research led to correspondence with other family members around the United States and beyond. In 1984 she published a detailed genealogy of the family, Crockett Cousins, and later issued a supplement. She continued to amass data on the connected Crockett family lines until the late 1990s, when failing eyesight led her to curtail her work.
Correspondence, biographical data, genealogical charts, and printed material make up the Kathryn E. Jones papers, representing almost thirty years of her research on Crockett family genealogy.

Series 2: Coded Crockett files |
|
This is the most significant series, consisting of files on individual family members, ordered according to Jones’ alphanumeric code system (for more information, see her published work Crockett Cousins). These files contain a mix of research correspondence and source material, such as photocopies and transcripts of documents, genealogical charts, and clippings and other published sources gathered by Jones or received from others. Most files contain a sheet with a brief biographical/genealogical note and a summary of the items found in the file. Items within the files are generally unordered. Jones’s research focused on her family line, beginning with the grandfather of David Crockett of Alamo fame. In addition to the known members of her line are files on many individuals whose relationship was uncertain. |
