Detailed Description of the Collection
Gold Star Mothers of Texas
Gold Star Mothers is a club for mothers of sons and daughters killed in combat. The club comforts and provides assistance to mothers who have been notified of their child's death and performs various volunteer works, mostly in hospitals. The Dallas Chapter was founded during the World War I years.
This collection contains clippings concerning the club's activities, undated lists of Dallasites who were killed in combat, and a 1919 program from a memorial service held in Dallas for patriots "who gave their lives for world peace." The collection also contains member directories spanning from 1953 to 1974. There is also one photograph from a Mother's Day program held in May 1933.
