Historical Background

The Dallas Literary Club started in August 2, 1954 as the White Rock Literary Review Club. The group was founded by Jenny Emmitt who felt that young mothers needed a day out once a month and a program was needed to keep mothers abreast of current literature. The club changed its name in 1960 to the Dallas Literary Club to reflect its growing membership. The club has continued to meet and is still very active.

Scope and Contents

The Dallas Literary Club collection contains over fifty years of materials detailing club activities. Minutes and yearbooks are created annually. Scrapbooks also detail club activities with photographs and other materials.
