Ann Wagner Stock and Investment Collection
Register and Finding Guide
Ann Fretz was born in 1855 in Switzerland. Her family came to Dallas in December of 1870 after hearing Dallasite and Swiss native Ben Long speak well about the area. Her brother was Emil Fretz, a member of the Dallas Parks Board for twenty years. She married Louis Wagner a Dallasite from Hesse, Germany in 1880. In 1872, Mr. Wagner bought a grocery store at the corner of Main and Jefferson (later Record). The store was run by the family for 98 years, closing in 1965. Louis Wagner died on November 30, 1909 of blood poisoning; Ann Wagner passed away on March 5, 1930. She had three sons, George E., Louis W. and Dr. Charles Wagner. She also had a daughter Emma Wagner.
The Ann Wagner Stock and Investment Collection consists of stock certificates owned by Mrs. Louis Wagner, some prospectuses, several special assessments on property owned by Mrs. Wagner and issued by the City of Dallas for improvements, some photographs and newspapers.
