Stuart Sruggs Residence Architectural Renderings
Biographical NoteThe Stuart Scruggs residence was constructed on the corner of Turtle Creek Boulevard and Gilbert Street, 3715 Turtle Creek Boulevard, Dallas, Texas, for Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Briscoe Scruggs in 1938. Stuart Scruggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gross Scruggs, graduated in 1916 from Lehigh University winning All-American honors as a football player during his senior year. Following service as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War I, Scruggs returned to Dallas where he was active in the insurance business. At one period of his career, he served as manager of Scruggs, Price & Company. Scruggs was active in the Dallas social community, holding membership in Idlewild Club, Dallas Country Club, Dallas Athletic Club, and Delta Upsilon. He was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas. Death came to Stuart Scruggs, aged 68, 18 August 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was survived by his widow Bess, and sister, Mrs. Margaret Scruggs Caruth. Scope and ContentsThe Stuart Scruggs Residence Architectural Renderings, 1938, consist of c.2 cubic feet of architectural drawings and typed specifications prepared by the architectural firm of M.F. Fooshee and J.B. Cheek of 1901 1/2 North Harwood, Dallas, Texas. The residence was constructed during 1938 at the corner of Turtle Creek Boulevard and Gilbert Street, 3715 Turtle Creek Boulevard. As of 1985, the residence has been razed and an apartment complex stands on the property. The specifications for the residence, include 34 pages, delineating forty-four aspects of the construction from definitions to clean up. The residence drawings consist of eleven sheets, 35"x24", and one drawing of the garage, 20"x16". The scale is 1/4"=1'-0". The drawings include front elevations and floor plans. The plans and specifications have been deacidified and are stored in acid free folders.
