Clint Peoples Collection
For an in depth biography read: James M. Day's Captain Clint Peoples: Texas Ranger, Waco: Texan Press, 1980. DPL RB P4195D
U.S. Marshal Clint Peoples' career in law enforcement covers 55 years as of 1985 with a total of nine badges:
1930-1932 Deputy Sheriff
1933-1934 Special Texas Ranger
1935-1936 Chief Deputy Constable
1937-1941 Chief Deputy Sheriff
1942-1945 Highway Patrolman
1946-1952 Texas Ranger Private
1953-1968 Texas Ranger - Captain
1969-1974 Texas Ranger - Senior Captain
1974-current U.S. Marshal, Northern Texas District
Over the years Clint Peoples has dedicated himself to honesty and efficiency in police work.
Clint Peoples was born August 25, 1910 in Bridgeport, Texas, the son of William Thomas (Tom) and Susie Baugh Peoples. The Peoples family settled in Conroe, Texas in 1926. After graduating from Conroe High School in 1928 Clint Peoples supported himself by aiding the various family enterprises, but his true ambition was law enforcement.
Highly influenced by Sheriff Ben Hicks, Peoples began his life long occupation. Sheriff Hicks allowed Peoples to follow him as an observer. When a job came open in the Sheriff's office Clint begged his father to let him apply. Tom Peoples was not overtly excited about his son's choice but Clint was determined. With the promise of doing his best and reaching the top, which meant Ranger Captain, Clint received his father's approval. Clint Peoples became a Deputy Sheriff at the age of 20.
Through hard work and dedication Clint Peoples moved through his career with distinction and honor. He holds advanced certificates from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Law Enforcement Academy and was also an instructor. He has the respect and appreciation from his co-workers and the legislators of Texas. His career is his life, with the only other major influence being his wife, Donna Henderson Peoples, his daughter, Donna Jean Peoples McClendon, and the Baptist Churches the family belonged to over the years. Clint Peoples is an excellent example of what it takes to make a career of law enforcement.
For further information a brief biographical sketch, written by James Day, is included in the Researchers Guide Box A.

The Clint Peoples Collection contains correspondence, personal and professional, photographs, teaching materials and newspaper clippings. There are three general topics: Clint Peoples' career as a Texas Lawman, the processes of law enforcement and a history of the Texas Rangers organization, its men and its operation.
The collection as it concerns the life and career of Clint Peoples contains family photographs, personal letters, certificates of achievement and appreciation, newspaper clippings concerning either cases worked by Peoples or general recognition, including promotions and appointments. Also included are manuscript chapters of James Day's biography and oral history tapes.
The processes of law enforcement in Texas can be seen in the teaching materials both lecture notes and "handouts", and copies of speeches given to interest groups and police in-training sessions. The case reports written by Rangers concerning their activities reveal both types of crimes investigated and the procedures involved. Weekly reports show also the types of criminal activity and the long working hours as well as the standard procedure in police work.
The collection covers an extensive period in Texas Ranger history, beginning with photographs of early Rangers. The newspaper clippings concern specific Rangers and the formation of Ft. Fisher/Texas Ranger Hall of Fame as well as criminal cases worked by Rangers. More specifically the collection contains obituaries, career highlights, and special mementos concerning the Rangers. Several Ranger problems, such as strike breaking and a controversial investigation of brutality charges against the Rangers are represented through letters, telegrams, and official memorandum especially concerning Captain A.Y. Allee in Carrizo Springs. Other letters and reports show the Ranger involvement in stopping gambling, prostitution, and illegal liquor operations. Also included are roster list, pension list, assignments to companies and other organizational items.
Clint Peoples, as chairman of the Texas Ranger Commemorative Committee for the 150th Anniversary of the Texas Rangers, was instrumental in the creation of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas. The collection contains: planning materials, invitation list, the incoming and outgoing correspondence of the committee, speeches, photographs of groundbreaking and grand opening ceremonies and the 150th Anniversary Banquet.
Overall the collection gives insight to the daily routine of the Texas Rangers, a history of one of Texas' most famous organizations, and a biography of one of the most well know lawmen in the state.
