Dallas International, Cultural and Social Circle
Institutional HistoryThe Dallas International, Cultural and Social Circle (DICSC) was a non-profit, tax-exempt organization open to all people with an interest in promoting friendship and understanding among nations. The club was founded in 1959 by Morena Petsch, primarily as a social environment for the foreign-born within the community. As Dallas became a more international city, DICSC was called on to provide service to the community which included interpreters, translation, citizenship classes, socials, and language seminars for visitors as well as new citizens. A language program was formed to help newcomers overcome the language barrier and scholarships awarded to foster interest in languages of other countries. DICSC recognized the varied customs and lifestyles of all nationalities and strived to broaden the knowledge and understanding of people all over the world. The goal of the organization was to bring people from other countries into the stream of American life and encourage people to learn the background and culture of others. The club sponsored social, cultural and educational programs with art, music, food, dances, meetings, and the exchange of ideas in all areas of mutual interest. DICSC was supported by membership dues, tax-deductible donations and various functions and activities held during the year.
