Biographical Sketch

Little is known about the Lind family, who emigrated from Sweden and settled in Texas in the 19th century.


Scope and Contents

The Lind Family Papers include a small amount of text materials, primarily greeting cards, newspaper clippings, and Christian literature fliers. There are also three land grants from the mid-1800s for Bell County, Coryell County, and Milam County. The remainder of the collection consists of 473 photographs and 16 black-and-white negatives documenting the Lind family, extended family, and friends. The photographs are arranged by the following subjects: candid indoor portraits; candid outdoor portraits; group portraits; studio portraits; weddings; funerals; houses and buildings; holiday cards; studio portraits of children and infants; candid outdoor portraits of children of infants; and a small number of miscellaneous photographs. The studio portraits comprise nearly 0.4 linear feet of the collection. Formats include tintypes, cartes-de-visite, and cabinet cards. Local photographers represented in the collection include: C.F. Rhomberg, O.L. Thornbladh, H.R. Marks, George Schuwirth, S.B. Hill, Emil Risse, Yancey & Rhomberg, Chapman, Berner Marks, Christianson, Smith Studio.

Materials were found in 1976 in the attic of 505 E. 42nd Street, Austin, Texas, by a non-descendent of the Lind family and later donated to the Austin History Center in 1991.
