Biographical Note

Michael Martin was the manager at PASE Inc. Video (Where PASE was the acronym for Phillip A. Smith Esquire who owned the company). Michael Martin was born April 19, 1948 in Branson, Missouri. He later moved to New York City where he sold silver /turquoise Indian jewelry where he met his wife Jody. They moved to Austin, Texas to open the Cactus Flower. They had two children Noah and Chrissy. One of Michael’s greatest claims was his fight to save the famous Ken Featherstone mural “Peyote Dream” from 1974 which was painted on the wall of his home in the Shoal Creek neighborhood. This is now housed at the South Austin Popular Culture Center (SouthPop). Michael was also an active member of the music appreciation organization Club Chi-Wa-Wa, with the catch phrase “We Bark, We Bite, We Dig All Night”. In addition he was instrumental in founding the Toni Price “Tuesday Happy Hour” frequently referred to as “Hippie Hour”. From the early 1970’s through most of the 1990’s he hosted many social events frequently booking clubs on 6th Street. He also produced some of the earliest live video footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan that was used by VH1.
