No information is known about Amelia Simpson Millett. From the photographs in the collection, she looks like she was a young woman in the 1860s-1870s.

Scope and Contents

54 photographs in a decorative album depict friends and family of Amelia Simpson Millett from circa 1860s-1870s. The leather-bound album is 5.5x7.5x3 inches and has an ornately decorated gilt cover with oval pastoral paintings at the center of both covers. Inscribed inside the cover is "Mrs. M.P. Matthews" and "Miss Amelia Simpson, Christmas 1869." Photographs are primarily individual portraits of children, men, and women, but there is also a man and a young boy together and two women (sisters?) together. Most people are unidentified. Individuals identified include a few photos of Millett as a young woman, Joseph Nagle, and Ailema Simpson. A few images are reproductions of illustrations including "Mater Dolorosa" and "La Senorita." The majority of photographs are by H.B. Hillyer but W.J. Oliphant and S.B. Hill of Austin are also represented. Other photographers are from Houston, Galveston, Tennessee, New York, New Orleans, and Dublin. Photographic formats include cartes-de-visite and tintypes. Some items are hand-tinted.
