Austin (Tex.). Boards and Commissions. Water and Wastewater Commission.
An Inventory of the Collection
Boards and commissions are an established feature of Austin's municipal government and provide citizens an opportunity to participate in the City's governmental process and lend a more diverse viewpoint for the City Council to consider. They are created by the City Council as the need arises and dissolved if the need for the particular board or commission ends or if the purpose of the board/commission needs to be altered.
The Water and Wastewater Commission was first established by the Austin City Council in 1981 (Ordinance 810820-A) with the purpose and intent of to create a permanent citizens commission empowered to review and analyze the policies and resources relating to the Water and Wastewater Utility of the City of Austin and to advise the City Council on policies and resources. It was the intent of this act that the Commission will assist the City Council in insuring the citizens of the City of Austin the provision of an adequate economical and potable supply of water and a stable, economical and environmentally safe system of wastewater disposal. The most recent Water and Wastewater Commission was created by Ordinance 20071129-011 and the charge, empowered to review, analyze, and advise the City Council on the policies and resources relating to the city water and wastewater utility and water quality, has not changed much.
The collection contains the Water and Wastewater Commission's meeting minutes and backup materials dating from 1981 to 1988 (on microfilm) and meeting minutes and agendas for the years 1989 and 2007 (paper). In addition there are annual work plans dated from 2000 to 2006 that were filed with the City of Austin Office of the City Clerk as required by Austin City Code 2-1-46.
