Administrative History

The Austin Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees created the Austin Independent School District Citizen's Bond Advisory Committee to offer recommendations concerning facilities and equipment needs of the district. The committee held its first meeting on June 22, 1994. The members were: Mel Waxler (Chair), Chris Moore (Vice Chair), Kent Butler, Larry Garner, Jeff Mench, Jim Smith, Rudy Castanon, Debbie Hanna, Pascual Piedfort, Gary Valdez, Ron Chadwick, Ralp Kristoferson, May Schmidt, John Welton, Gavino Fernandez, Hall Lamme, Megan Seaholm, Max Woodfin and Manuel Zuniga. They collected, reviewed and analyzed information, held meetings with the public, contacted many community leaders during 1994 and 1995, conducted a survey of voters in 1995, and visited schools to help them with their recommendations. They retained Harner & Associates, an independent growth projections expert, to analyze factors relating to present and future student populations. The major categories for the bond package included renovation of schools, networked technology, construction of new schools, installation of security systems, ADA compliance, and the addition of athletic and storage facilities. The committee presented their final report to the Board of Trustees June 26, 1995.
