Administrative History

Graeber, Simmons & Cowan was founded in 1978 in Austin, Texas by David Graeber, A.M. Simmons and Tommy Neal Cowan. Graeber, formerly of Brooks, Barr, Graeber and White who merged with 3D/International in 1973, decided he was tired of the travel required by a corporate architecture firm. He resigned from 3D/I and created a firm that would allow him work "in his own culture and in his own town." The company evolved from a three-person firm into one of Austin's leading architectural firms. The firm is particularly known for work on high-tech and education projects, including design work for Sematech, Motorola, Advanced Micro Devices, Austin Community College and Texas A&M. Graeber retired in 1995, Simmons in 2008 and Cowan in 2009. Graeber, Simmons & Cowan was renamed GSC Architects in 2010.
