Roy Faires graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1971 with a B.S. in Radio/Television/Film and in 1973 obtained a B.J. in Broadcast Journalism. He worked for the Austin PBS affiliate KLRU-TV from 1971-1976 where he held several positions as Anchorman, Producer, and Reporter. Roy was the host of "Who Knows the Answer?" a weekly academic quiz show for high school scholars while at KLRU-TV.
Roy moved to the ABC affiliate KVUE-TV in 1976 and stayed there until 1989 where he was Anchorman, Film Critic, Director, Editor, and Producer. From 1985-1989, Roy was the Entertainment Reporter and Critic fro the morning show "Good Morning Austin". He traveled frequently for over 285 celebrity interviews and movie screenings.
Roy Faires worked on many special projects while at KVUE-TV including "Crime Stoppers" and "Wednesday's Child" which were both weekly news shorts aimed at helping to solve local crimes and help children being placed in permanent homes. Roy won several awards for special series that he created, wrote, and produced including "Roots: The Austin Saga", winner Kappa Alpha Psi Award of excellence, "Having Healthy Babies", winner Texas Public Health Association's PHAME award, and "Your Cancer Quotient", winner Texas Public Health Association's PHAME award. Roy also received a PHOEBE award for television excellence from the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers.

Box 1 contains text files containing papers and documents associated with research for newscasts, including some photographs. The second box contains Tape 1 (1987) which is a demo tape of the Crime Stopper shorts filmed for KVUE-TV; Tapes 2-7 (1979-1983) are the special projects Roy Faires worked on for KVUE-TV including "Inside the Savage Storm", "Roots: The Austin Saga", "Good Morning Austin", and "Newscast from the Past"; tapes 8-9 (1985-1989) are examples of Roy Faires demo reel and interviewing style; and tapes 10-12 (1987) are in depth interviews with Kim Bassinger, Jeff Bridges, and Robert Benton from the movie "Nadine" which was filmed in and around Austin, Texas. Box 3 contains seven (7) 16mm films including "Austin: Bargain Paradise?" (Parts 3,4,5), Westrim, Garcia School Board, McClellan School Board, Onion Creek from 4/20/77, and one untitled film. And lastly, box 4 contains five (5) 16mm films including a News/WXR Promo/X-fer and 4 untitled reels.
