Administrative HistoryThe University Area-Austin Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1950, and is one of the original Kiwanis clubs in Austin, Texas. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to helping children at the local community level. Through fundraising efforts by the members the University Area-Austin Kiwanis the club has been able to support local organizations such as the Settlement Home for Children, Central Texas Children's Hospital of Austin, Travis County 4-H Clubs, Infant-Parent Mission, Austin State Hospital Children's Program, Austin Area Food Bank, Fans for the Needy, Austin Children's Home and other community organizations that have needs. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe University Area-Austin Kiwanis (UAK) Club collection consists of three scrapbooks, digital images from Kiwanis events, and several awards and certificates of appreciation. The newsletters, event flyers and programs, correspondence, photographs, club directories, certificates of appreciation and newspaper clippings in the scrapbooks highlight the fundraising, community and social activities of the organization from 1950 to 2012. In addition to the photographs in the scrapbook the collections includes digital images of the 2007 Circle K International (CKI) Convention, 2006 CKI Fall Roundup, UAK 2006-2007 Induction Ceremony and a UAK birthday event at the County Line restaurant.
