Administrative History

The parents and teachers of the Rosedale School met on September 28, 1939 to organize a parent-teacher association. A representative from the Seventh District of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers was present to officially recognize the Rosedale School Parent-Teacher Association as a local PTA unit organized under the authority of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, a branch of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers. The aim was to bring into closer relation the home and the school, and that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the training of the child.

Scope and Contents

The administrative files, meeting minutes, financial records, yearbooks, project and event files, publicity books and Rosedale School/Rosedale Community Task Force records in the Rosedale School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) highlight the activities of the PTA from 1939 to 1981. The Administrative Files series (1966-1969, undated) contains the PTA bylaws, committee handbook and a manual for the PTA office holders. The Meeting Minutes series (1939-1973) includes six ledgers with meeting minutes of both the executive committee and regular meetings. The minutes document the PTA's membership, officers, financial spending and other activities from the first meeting in 1939 until 1973. The Financial Records series (1956-1971, undated) provides insight into the types of programming the PTA supported. Scattered years of the Rosedale School PTA yearbooks dating from 1940 through 1970 and a 1971-72 Student Directory make up the Yearbooks and Student Directory series (1940-1952, 1965-1971) and provide information about PTA programming, faculty & student names and names of the PTA office-holders. The Projects & Events series (1954-1975, undated) includes materials related to the Parent-Child Relationship project and the Rosedale Carnival. The Parent-Child Relationship project file documents an effort by the PTA to generate interest in workshops and discussion groups and includes information distributed to Rosedale School parents, attendance rolls, reports on the success of programming and workshop handouts. The Rosedale Carnival was the main fundraising event for the PTA and these materials document the planning of the yearly undertaking. The Publicity Books series (1942-1969) contains 13 publicity books and appear to be created for submission to the Texas Congress of Parents-Teachers Association and were exhibited at State and/or District annual meetings. The scrapbook-style books include PTA yearbooks, newspaper clippings, photographs of PTA events, students and faculty, event flyers, and correspondence sent by the PTA to parents of Rosedale School students. Of interest in the publicity books are photographs and news clippings related to the local Boy Scout, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownie troops. And lastly, the Rosedale School/Rosedale Community Task Force series (1981, undated) documents the task force's efforts, when Rosedale School was being threatened with closure because of low enrollment, to determine the communities' opinions of possible ways to increase enrollment at Rosedale and to increase community use of Rosedale School facilities. Included are meeting minutes, survey sheets, survey results and memorandum.
