Administrative History

Inspired by other cities where the wives of Certified Public Accountants were organized Mrs. Albert Caster invited other wives of Austin-area Certified Public Accountants to meet to discuss the organization of a wives club of Austin Certified Public Accountants. On January 26, 1955, at the Austin Country Club, the Austin Certified Public Accountants' Wives Club (Austin CPA Wives Club) was organized. The purpose was to unite its members and to cooperate in any way when needed in social activities of the Austin Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. Following the practices of other CPA Wives Club wives were elected to the corresponding offices held by their husbands in the CPA professional organization. The first officers were: Mrs. Albert Caster (President), Mrs. John Lane Peck (Vice-President), Mrs. Billy R. Ramsey (Secretary) and Mrs. Blenn Welch (Treasurer).

Scope and Contents

The Austin Certified Public Accountants' Wives Club Scrapbooks collection consists of two scrapbooks that highlight the activities of the organization from its organization in 1955 to 1989. The first scrapbook spans the years of 1955 to 1973 and includes club yearbooks, bylaws, installation programs, correspondence and thank you cards, photographs of members and club events, event and programming invitations, event memorabilia and newspaper clippings announcing club meeting and events. Of interest are the minutes of the charter organizing meeting and a copy of the newspaper with a photograph of the original officers of the club. The second scrapbook spans the years 1973 through 1989 and contains similar types of materials as the first scrapbook.

The earlier scrapbook was disassembled because of its poor condition. A complete photocopy of the scrapbook is available, along with the materials contained within the pages of the scrapbook.
