Administrative History

The Twentieth Century Study Club formed in the fall of 1936 by twelve women interesting in creating a study club with the objective to promote culture and mutual improvement through the study of various types of literature. In general the group relied on the creative, dramatic and literary talents of its own members for programming; however, occasionally they invited special out-of-club speakers to present programs. The group met monthly, except in summer months, on the third Wednesday of the month. Membership was limited to twenty-five active members. Though the years the club has made contributions to such causes as the Austin-Travis County Tuberculosis Drive, the Y.W.C.A, the Garden Center at Zilker Park, the Salvation Army, Austin State School and the "Reading Is Fun" program.
