Administrative HistoryThe Capital City Federated Business and Professional Women's Club was organized June 15, 1964 in Austin, Texas to elevate the standards for women in business and in the professions and to promote the interests of business and professional women. The organization was a member of the International, National and State Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs. The Capital City Club separated from the Austin Federated Business and Professional Women's Club with the consent of the State Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club. Officers of the new club installed on June 29, 1964 were: Gene Barnett, president; Louise Polvogt, first vice-president; Janelle Slaughter, second vice-president; Mada Hester, corresponding secretary; Jean Lorenz, recording secretary; and Evelyn Schroeder, treasurer. Approximately thirty-two of the forty active members of the Austin club joined the Capital City club. They held their Charter Presentation dinner in August of the same year. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe administrative files, meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, yearbooks, event programs, and project files in this collection highlight the activities of the organization from 1963 to 1991. The Organization series (1964-1975) consists of organization materials from the Charter Presentation dinner, bylaws, incoming and outgoing correspondence, annual reports and meeting minutes. The meeting minutes were originally bound and span the years 1964-1975. Included are the minutes from the all member dinner meetings as well as the business and executive board meetings; financial reports; and reports from various committees. Yearbooks and a single undated membership roster make up the Membership series (1964-1991). The Events series (1964-1985) contains programs from the Capital City Club's Installation Banquets as well as programs from the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs Forty-Eighth Annual Convention held in Austin and District 6 Conferences. The Project Files series (1963-1977) includes the newspaper clippings, a photograph required to nominate Judge Mary Pearl Williams for the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club Woman of the Year as well as reports and lobbying materials to advocate for the passage of the Texas Equal Legal Rights Amendment. The amendment to the Texas constitution granting women and men equal legal rights resulted from a fifteen-year campaign spearheaded by the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women. Yearbooks from the Austin Woman's Federation and general distributed information from the Texas Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club make up the Other Organizations series (1964-1991). The Publicity and Recognition series (1964-1990) contains newspaper clippings about the Capital City Club's activities and programming and City of Austin Proclamations proclaiming a week in October National Business Woman's Week. And lastly the Scrapbook series consists of three scrapbooks (1967-1968, 1969-1970, 1970-1971) feature news clippings, photographs, newsletters, correspondence, newsletters, invitations and event programs illustrating the club members' activities, at the local, state and national level within the organization.
