Austin Lyric Opera Program and Poster CollectionAn Inventory of the Collection
Administrative HistoryThe Austin Lyric Opera (ALO) was founded in 1986 by Joseph McClain and the late Dr. Walter Ducloux, who envisioned it as a dynamic company that would enrich, entertain, and educate the community. The founding production was Mozart's The Magic Flute which opened in January of 1987 at the University of Texas Performing Art Center. In 2000 the AOL moved into the Mary Ann Heller Opera Center which houses rehearsal halls, administrative offices, the box office as well as Armstrong Community Music School, the first ever to be established by an opera company and one of the first in Texas. In 2008 the Long Center for the Performing Arts became the permanent performance home for the AOL.
