Administrative HistoryThe Austin chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NABWO) was established in 1986 by the Chapter Formation Committee whose members included: Cheryl Booth, Byrlan Cass-Shively, Susan C. Holeman, Lil Cleary, Kathy Fineg, Cathy Roush, Oma Talley and Gwen Klein. The first meeting (formation dinner) was held on May 20 at the Sheraton Crest Hotel and was attended by 28 women. The NAWBO provided opportunities for networking, hosted speaker events, sponsored fundraising events and published a newsletter. On June 30, 1992 it was announced that the Austin Chapter of the NAWBO was folding and would cease to exist. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe Administrative Files series (1986-1992) includes chapter bylaws, start-up history, membership lists, calendars, sponsor information, public and corporate relations files, public and corporate affairs materials, and miscellaneous administrative files. The Minutes series (1986-1992) consists of agendas and minutes of the NABWO Board and of the membership that offer insight into the activities of the organization. Supporting documentation includes financial records, agendas for general meetings, work plans, lists of objectives and event flyers. The Correspondence series (1986-1992) includes correspondence from and to the NABWO national office. The Conferences and Events series (1987-1992, undated) is an assortment of event planning documentation, potential speaker biographies, event flyers and correspondence for events and national conferences. The Printed Materials series (1985-1991) includes newspaper clippings and a research file on women's issues. The Scrapbook series (1986-1992) consists of a single scrapbook with newsletters, national organization communications, photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence and brochures highlighting the activities of the organization.
