Biographical Note

Abbie Kerbow Lusby was born in Delta County, Texas in 1903 to William and Ella Kerbow. She was an Austin, Texas resident for 60 years and a member of the First Baptist Church of Austin and the Order of the Eastern Star, Capital Chapter #803. She was a piano teacher in Austin for many years. Her husband, Joe Lusby, moved to Austin in 1929 from Mississippi. Throughout his life he worked as a gardener and landscape architect for state institutions, the United States Navy (in the Seabees) and private individuals. The couple lived at 4412 Burnet Rd in Austin. Joe died in October of 1991 and Abbie followed in July of 1995.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains materials from both the personal and professional life of Abbie Kerbow Lusby. The Personal series contains correspondence (1941-1972) from family and friends, First Baptist Church of Austin newsletters (1948-1979), family photographs (1927, 1947-1970, undated) as well as assorted membership certificates, legal documents and newspaper clippings. The Professional series includes financial records (1956, 1962) concerning piano and organ purchases, handwritten musical scores (undated) and programs (1947-1980) for her student's recitals.
