Laurence E. Ledbetter ScrapbookAn Inventory of the Collection
Biographical NoteLaurence Edwin Ledbetter was born April 6, 1882 to Edwin J and Mary Josephine Ledbetter in Austin, Texas. Ledbetter spent most of his life in Austin with a brief relocation to the Midwest between 1903 and 1906. Once settled back in Austin he married Bess Cunningham on June 29, 1910. Upon returning from military service in France during World War I Ledbetter tried several jobs and eventually went to work as an electrician and general maintenance man at the Texas Capitol in 1920. He retired as the Superintendent of Building and Grounds at the Texas Capitol in 1956. Bess Ledbetter died in March of 1966 and Laurence followed in March of 1968. Scope and ContentsThe scrapbook includes photographs with corresponding text that provides a timeline for Laurence Ledbetter's life from birth to the celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary in 1960. Also included are newspaper clippings, awards and recognitions that celebrate Ledbetter's achievements.
