Timothy Hart Williams Scrapbook
An Inventory of the Collection
Timothy Hart Williams, Sr. was born in Des Arc, Arkansas on February 6, 1869. He moved to Austin, Texas in 1900 and worked in the mercantile business until his death on March 19, 1954. He was the head of the firm of T. H. Williams & Company until his son, T. H. Williams, Jr., took over active management in the 1940s. He married Marie Julie Biron in 1902 and they had two daughters (Lucile and Mildred) and two sons (Paul and T. H., Jr.). Williams was a member of the Austin Rotary Club and the University Presbyterian Church.
The scrapbook consists of a collection of letters written to Timothy Hart Williams in January of 1942. All of the letters were written by members of the University Presbyterian Church expressing friendship and good wishes for a recovery from an illness that had caused him to miss church services. Letters from Austin businessmen such as Walter E. Long (Chamber of Commerce) and Fred W. Adams (Adams Extracts) are included. In addition, there is a Timothy Hart Williams, Sr. Memorial Resolution issued by the Austin Rotary Club to his family upon his death in 1954.
