Nancy Smith Smitz PapersAn Inventory of the Collection
Biographical NoteNancy Smith Smitz was born in 1942 to J. Frank (Jay) Smith Jr. and Anita Jane Ake Smith in Austin, Texas. Her father, Jay, was born in Thorndale, Texas in 1915 and moved to Austin in 1939. Anita was also born in Taylor and married Jay in 1940. Jay Smith was a partner of McCall, Smith, Hibler Insurance until 1944 when he opened the Smith Brothers Chrysler-Plymouth dealership with his brother Edwin. In 1964 the name changed to Jay Smith Chrysler-Plymouth until the business was sold in 1979. Jay operated Jay Smith Chrysler-Plymouth in Taylor, Texas until his retirement in 1980s. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe majority of the collection consists of approximately 80 images (negatives and prints) of the Smith Brothers auto dealership. In addition there are images (negatives) of the Smith family at various Austin society events. The textual materials consist of correspondence and newspaper clippings. Return to the Table of Contents
