Scope and Contents

The bulk of the collection consists of papers documenting McClurg's final years as a teacher at Albert S. Johnston High School. It consists of a prospectus and development notes for a pilot project in the humanities which would be implemented in two phases: phase one involved development of a new humanities class to be team-taught by McClurg and two other instructors in the fall of 1972 called, "The Arts as a Living Experience: Exploring the Interrelationships of the Arts with Emphasis on English, Art and Music". The second phase of the project involved building a new humanities center for the arts at Johnston High School. The collection contains planning and proposal documents related to this phase of the project. A smaller portion of the collection includes papers written by McClurg (presumably as a student) and former students of McClurg. Also included is a 1966 writing submission by McClurg to Parents' Magazine on character formation in children, a small number of financial documents related to the McClurg family and one unidentified, undated group photograph.
