Driscoll (Everly) Papers, 1974-1981, Bulk 1981An Inventory of Driscoll Everly Papers at the Austin History Center
Biographical SketchJournalist Everly Driscoll attended Fulmore Junior High and Travis High School in Austin. She graduated from Baylor University and taught in Waco and League City before joining the United States International Communication Agency. As a science correspondent for the agency, her stories on international affairs were published in overseas newspapers. She wrote extensively concerning space exploration and covered all Apollo space flights. On August 14, 1981, while in Nairobi, Kenya to cover a United Nations energy conference, Driscoll died from a gunshot wound received as the victim of a robbery. Driscoll’s mother, Austinite Harriet McElrath, received a meritorious honor award from the USICA in August 1982. The award noted that Driscoll had done “much to make the wonders of the space program and other U.
