Wilford R. Penny Student Bible, 1937-1940
Wilford Ray Penny (1915- ) is an alumnus of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, a former Presbyterian pastor in Texas, and a retired Certified Public Accountant with a long career in California. Penny was born on July 13, 1915 in Waxahachie, Texas. After attending Daniel Baker College, Abilene Christian College, and Austin College, where he earned a B.A. in 1937, Penny went on to earn a Bachelor of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1940. Penny served as a pastor in Laredo, Texas from 1940-1942, but moved to California to be closer to his family after becoming ill. After his recovery, Penny went on to become a Certified Public Accountant, a career in which he served until his retirement to Washington State in 2002.
This collection consists of Wilford R. Penny’s Bible used while he was a student at Austin Seminary from 1937-1940 (The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments / translated out of the original tongues / being the version set forth A.D. 1611 / compared with the most ancient authorities and revised A.D. 1881-1885 / newly edited by the American Revision Committee, A.D. 1901 / standard edition). The Bible is heavily annotated by Penny with Dr. Thomas White Currie’s teaching outlines for each book. Also includes pasted-in pages of typed notes.
