Scope and Content Note

Two feet of sermon outlines, lectures, and correspondence, and ten volumes of seminary notebooks (1898-1941) document the pastoral career of Charles Edwin McStravick. The collection is arranged in three series: Sermon Outlines, 1898-1941; General, 1898-1917; Seminary Notebooks, undated.

The first series, Sermon Outlines, comprises the bulk of the collection. The sermon outlines, which were removed from binders, reveal McStravick’s method of preaching and preparation. The outlines list three to five main talking points with sub-points, and are arranged in folders according to topic. Information on the place and date the sermon was preached is handwritten on the back of each outline. General, the second series, contains four handwritten lectures completed as part of seminary coursework, routine correspondence of a personal and professional nature, a pamphlet, and some notes on poems and sermons. The third series, Seminary Notebooks, is comprised of ten volumes of notes on a handful of topics created in the course of seminary study.
