Biographical note

Willie E.B. Blackmon, a native of Houston, Texas was born on April 16, 1951 to Will Boney and Florence Joseph Blackmon. A 1969 graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, he was an All State and All American athlete as well as an honor student. Mr. Blackmon went on to attend Texas A & M University where he graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration in Marketing in 1973. While attending Texas A & M he was an All-Southwest Conference and an All American athlete.

In 1982, he graduated from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1984 where served as a military attorney before being honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Mr. Blackmon has served for ten years as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Houston. He has practiced law in the private sector in the fields of Family Law, Personal Injury, Wills and Probate, as well as Juvenile and Criminal Law.

He has received many accolades both for his athletic and professional accomplishments throughout his career. A member of the world record holding indoor mile relay team that won the U.S. Track and Field Federation National Championship he was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. Other honors include Co-recipient of the Gerald R. Ford Medal for Distingished Public Service (2006), a Texas A&M University Distinguished Alumnus, and a member of Who’s Who in American Law 2008-2009. Mr. Blackmon is also a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first intercollegiate fraternity established by African Americans in 1906. Today, Judge Blackmon is currently retired and lives in Marble Falls with his wife, Dr. Gaye Lang. He maintains legal offices at Dennis Spurling PLLC Attorneys at Law.

Scope and Contents

The Willie Blackmon Photo Collection is comprised of thirty seven scanned images that were done as a part of the Gregory School’s Neighborhood Scanning project. All of the scanned images were from original photos and documents provided from the donor.

Arrangement note

Each of the images scanned were assigned a unique identifier number and scanned in numerical order based on the numbers given. The scanned images are stored digitally at the Gregory School. To view a particular image or images please contact the Archivist or Senior Imaging Technician with your request.
