Biographical/Historical note

Sandra Ann Wilson is a native Houstonian and long time Fourth Ward resident. She was born at Jefferson Davis Hospital December 25th, 1934 as an only child. Her parents were Johnnie Wilson Jr. and Jerusha Wilson. She was a former student at the Gregory Elementary School, having attended from the 2nd-6th grade when Mrs. Libbey Boutte was principal. She went on to attend Booker T. Washington High School from 1950-1953 and finished fifth in her class. She was active in extracurricular activities while at Booker T. Washington, being a cheerleader, member of the band, pianist for the high school orchestra under Conrad Johnson, vice-president of her senior class, and reporter and editor in chief for the high school newspaper. Upon graduation she enrolled at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Missouri in September, 1953. There she majored in Journalism with a minor in Music. She graduated from Lincoln University in 1957 and returned to Houston. She took her first job back at Booker T. Washington High School as an English teacher. She also started the Washington Mirror Newspaper at Booker T. Washington which was a student run paper published monthly. After a long career spent in teaching, Ms. Wilson is currently retired and living in the Third Ward near the campus of Texas Southern University.
