Biographical note

Helen D. Johnson was born in Houston, Texas on December 2, 1905. She was one of six children born to Tom and Pearl Johnson. In 1936, she married Stafford Henri Burns from Groveton, Texas. In 1944, they had a son, Stafford Henri Burns Jr. Mr. Burns, Sr. worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and Mrs. Burns was a housewife, but they supplemented much of their income from rental properties they owned in Houston and surrounding areas. The Burns’ resided in Houston’s Third Ward where they were active in the community as they belonged to several social organizations. Mrs. Burns died in 1996

The Burns Family Collection consists of funeral programs, school programs, and ephemera of individuals and places that had special meaning to the family throughout the years in Houston.
