America History and Life 1964 to present
Updated four times a year. Particularly strong for U.S. and Canadian political and intellectual history. Contains citations with abstracts to social science and humanities literature on all aspects of history, culture and current affairs from prehistoric times to the present. Covers books, book reviews, journals and dissertations. Also reviews films and video projects. The database corresponds to the print America: History and Life, which is produced by ABC-CLIO. The database covers history, interdisciplinary studies of historical interest and history-related topics in the social sciences and humanities.
American Periodical Series (APS Online) 1741-1900
Updated daily. Contains 1000 magazines published between 1741 and 1900. Titles include Benjamin Franklin's General Magazine, the first American professional journals, and several consumer magazines still in publication, such as Vanity Fair, Harper's Magazine, and Ladies' Home Journal. The search interface allows you to search the complete text, including tables of contents, by boolean and keyword operators. Articles are linked to the corresponding page images, downloadable in PDF format. Titles from 1740-1805 are available now.
Tips: Useful for the study of civil rights, women’s rights, political attitudes. Most of these publications are indexed in the Poole’s Plus.

Updated quarterly. Contains records for all types of material on Mexican-American topics and Chicanos. FRANCIS International Humanities and Social Sciences 1984 to present
Updated monthly. Covers a wide range of multilingual, multidisciplinary information in the humanities (63%), social sciences (33%), and economics (3%). Strong in religion, the history of art, and literature (with particular emphasis on current trends in European and world literature).

A full text collection of books, pamphlets and periodicals reflecting the evolution of a feminist consciousness and the movement for women's rights. Includes publications from Europe, the U.S., the United Kingdom, Canada, and New Zealand. Dates vary. Contains full-text of the Congressional Record, Congressional Bills, Public Laws, Federal Register, GAO Reports, and the United States Code. Official website for full-text U.S. Government materials. Links are maintained here to many federal agency websites.
Tips: Use other databases to index the contents of these full-text publications. The Cybercemetery section is an archive of federal government official websites and publications which have disappeared from the actively-supported web. Documents on this site are not updated—the purpose is to preserve the text for public research uses. The Core Documents of U.S. Democracy contains the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Federalist Papers, Articles of Confederation, Emancipation Proclamation , Gettysburg Address, etc.
GPO Monthly Catalog July 1976 to present
Major index for publications of the U.S. government. For international relations it covers both congressional and executive branch publications. Especially useful for U.S. Dept. of State publications, treaties, trade & development. Many topics can be searched by region or by country. Handbook of Latin American Studies 1990 to present
Updated annually. A bibliography on Latin America consisting of works selected and annotated by scholars. Edited by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress, the multidisciplinary handbook alternates annually between the social sciences and the humanities. This is an index/ brief abstract version beginning in 1990.It corresponds to the full text version of the Handbook which is now available on-line from 1936 to the present with a different search capability. Print Edition: Handbook of Latin American Studies 1935- PCL Stacks Z 1605 H23 NO.1 1935 – present. Selective scholarly bibliography of resources published worldwide on Latin America. Updated daily. Index of articles from 800 legal reviews and journals and law-related articles from 1000 other periodicals. Full-text articles (some with graphics), 1989-present, from 40 periodicals. This index roughly corresponds to the print Index to Legal Periodicals PCL Stacks K 1 I5 V.13 1961/64-1989/90. A complete set beginning in 1908 is located in the Tarleton Law Library (K 33 I53).

Provides both full-text and abstracts for a wide range of general-interest wire services, newspapers and magazines from around the world, including full text of the New York Times. For political theory and law the most relevant section is Legal Research. The legal section contains searchable full-text versions of U.S. federal and state laws, codes and regulations (Federal Register), case law reports from all appellate courts, and selected European Union and British Commonwealth law. The Law reviews section provides interpretive articles.

Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. July 1976 to present
Updated monthly. Contains over 380,000 citations to the publications of U.S. government agencies, including the U.S. Congress. The most comprehensive bibliography of publications of the U. S. government. Comparable information for locating documents before July 1976 can be obtained from the print issues which began publication in 1895 and provide subject indexing throughout the 20th century: Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications PCL Reference Dept Z 1223 A18 1895- The entire set (with its variant titles) is shelved in PCL Reference.

A continuously-updated database containing references to over 55,000 national laws on labour, social security, and related human rights, and over 300 laws in full text. Records and texts in NATLEX (National Laws on Labour, Social Security and Related Human Rights Database) are in either English, French, or Spanish

Updated monthly. Bibliographic index with abstracts covering the full range of political, social, and public policy issues. Covers selected journal articles, books, statistics, yearbooks, directories, conference proceedings, pamphlets, reports, government documents, and microfiche. More than 1,600 journals and over 8,000 monographs are indexed each year. Includes documents published worldwide in any of six languages: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. The subject headings and abstracts are in English.
Tips:
The terms Civil Rights and Human Rights are often used interchangeably—with human rights more frequently used by European scholars. Suffrage, voting rights and elections are given wide coverage, as is constitutional law.

Updated twice per month. Contains citations to papers presented at worldwide meetings, conferences, expositions, workshops, congresses, and symposia. It covers published information received by the British Library Document Supply Centers. Many of these papers are available through Interlibrary Services, or by payment to The British Library using the FirstSearch Online Ordering Service

The scope is international and multi-disciplinary, including journals in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and other Western languages. Includes full image of 165 journals and the archive will continue to grow by this amount each year.
Tips: A search of “political theory” or “nationalism” will net thousands of citations. Limit by country and by subtopics. It is also useful to search by topic of the journal, by journal title and by author for writings of well-known political philosophers. Book reviews can be included or excluded.
Philosopher’s Index 1940 to present
Updated quarterly. Provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy and related fields. It covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, social philosophy, political philosophy, epistemology,and metaphysic logic as well as material on the philosophy of law, religion, science, history, education,and language.
Tips: Use names of philosophers combined with specific topics. Terms and many variants (in several languages) can be selected by use of the INDEX section at the top of the opening menu.
Poole’s Plus 1802-1906
Provides bibliographic indexing for approximately 479 American and English periodicals published between 1802 to 1903. Corresponds in part to the print Poole's Index to periodical Literature, 1802-1906, a pioneer index for periodical literature of the 19th century. Includes Hansard Index from 1803-1830, and Cobetts Parliamentary History of England.
Proceedings First 1993 to present
Updated twice a month. Provides tables of contents of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Each record contains a list of the papers presented at each conference. It covers published information received by the British Library Document Supply Centers. Many of these papers are available through Interlibrary Services, or by payment to The British Library using the FirstSearch Online Ordering Service.

Updated bimonthly. Describes material on the social sciences and humanities published in the Commonwealth of Independent States and Eastern Europe and other countries. Social Sciences Citation Index 1975 to present
Updated weekly. Provides bibliographic data, citations and abstracts of English-language authors to significant articles from the 1,725 journals spanning 50 disciplines as well as covering individually selected, relevant items from over 3,300 of the world's leading scientific and technical journals. Corresponds in part to the print Social Science Citation Index earlier cumulations on PCL Reference Index Tables H 1 S4546 1966-1970 and 1971-1975.

Updated regularly. Catalogue of UN publications and documentation indexed by the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the Library of the UN Office at Geneva. Also included are non-UN publications held in the collection of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library.

Updated semi-annually. Provides bibliographic information drawn from a variety of essential women's studies databases, covering topics such as feminist theory & history, family planning, law, employment, literary criticism, racial/ethnic studies and international feminism.
World Law Index 1976-1997
Describes the national laws, decrees, decree-laws, and regulations of the Spanish-speaking nations of Latin America plus Haiti, Brazil, the Philippines, Portugal, Spain, and Portuguese-African nations. Includes 29 countries in all. This index is a very detailed index prepared by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. It gives brief summary of each law, it can be searched by detailed topics, and it gives full details on where each text can be found. Searches and subjects are in English.
