Research Databases for Human Development & Family Science
Web of Science is a great starting point given the interdisciplinary scope which makes it useful for any topic. Discipline specific databases vary depending on the research question. Some starting points include:
- Academic Search Complete
- PsycINFO
- Gender Studies Database
- Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS)
- Sociological Abstracts
Dissertations and Theses Fulltext 1861-present, with 1997 to present available as PDFs. The database includes more than 90 percent of the doctoral dissertations accepted each year in North America with selective coverage for other parts of the world. UT dissertations are also linked from the Library Catalog and available in the UT Digital Repository. Any dissertations and theses that are not available locally can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
Google Scholar covers all kinds of scholarly content including articles, pre-prints and post-prints of articles, reports and other “grey” literature, and materials in institutional repositories. Google Scholar results link to UT licensed electronic journals, provided you use Google Scholar from the Library web site (which authenticates via EID). More information on Google Scholar.
OCLCWorldCat and WorldCat@UT is a database of library holdings worldwide and provides details needed to request items or content not available at UT. You can also use it to expand your search to the holdings of research libraries worldwide.
What happened to the custom searchbox on this page??
CrossSearch will soon be replaced by a new search service that will let you find more articles even faster--great news for your research! However, personal CrossSearch accounts will not transfer. If you have a CrossSearch account you will need to email any saved records or searches to yourself by Monday, May 21. These accounts will not be accessible after that date. Here's a Short video Tutorial on saving records.
