ANSS Sociology Discussion Group meets 10:30-12 on Saturday, June 28th, at the Disney Paradise Pier, Santa Monica Room

In addition to discussing the next steps for disseminating and encouraging the use of the ANSS IL Standards with special guest Edward L. Kain, Professor of Sociology at Southwestern University and recipient of the 2007 American Sociological Association's Distinguished Contributions to Teaching Award, we'll talk about practical ways to communicate with faculty about the benefits of information Literacy (IL), how IL assists them in realizing teaching goals, and ideas for incorporating IL into assignments. Concrete examples of how the new Standards have been used in assignments will be distributed at the meeting along with worksheets to use with faculty to help them enhance their assignments and curricula. Discussion and handouts will also include the seminal ASA principles that relate to information literacy and can be used in discussions with faculty. There will also be information about upcoming opportunities to share your teaching materials and expertise with your peers.
