The University of Texas Libraries' holdings related to the study of the Middle East -- in Western languages as well as in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, Azerbaijani, Tajiki and Kurdish -- include more than 300,000 volumes of monographs and bound periodicals, and over 900 subscriptions. The bulk of the collection is housed in the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) but there are also holdings in branch libraries elsewhere on the main campus.
Current periodicals may be browsed in the Periodicals Room on the second floor of PCL, where Arabic and Persian titles are shelved alphabetically by title in two separate sequences.
Microforms are intershelved in the general microforms shelving and reading area on the first floor.
Specialized periodicals may be found in UT branch libraries, such as the Architecture and Planning Library, the Walter Geology Library, or the Fine Arts Library.
Most recordings are held at the Fine Arts Library, and videotapes and DVDs can be found in the Audio Visual Library in the Flawn Academic Center.
Rare books and manuscripts are kept at the Harry Ransom Center.
Since its inception the Middle Eastern Library Program has received the enthusiastic support of the University of Texas Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES). Funding from the university and grants obtained by CMES have enabled the program to build a collection ranked among the top ten such collections in the country. Covering a wide variety of subjects, the collection is particularly strong in Arabic and Persian literature, history, Shiism, Islamic philosophy, and jurisprudence.
