DEBATES

Debates (Hansard) are the records of parliamentary speeches. No official verbatim record of the debates in the House of Commons began until 1909. Prior to 1909, the two houses of Parliament jointly published their debates.

House of Commons

JOURNALS

Journals are the official and permanent record of the proceedings of Parliament. They include motions passed, amended, withdrawn, committee memberships, and lists of papers. A journal usually covers one complete Parliamentary session.

House of Commons

  • 1547-present . Journals of the House of Commons.

  • Each volume has its own index and since 1880 cumulative indexes every ten years.
  • Indexes: Vol. 1-7 (1547/1659), 1 v.; v. 8-11 (1660/1697), 1 v.; v. 18-34 (1714/1774), 1 v.; v. 35-45 (1774/1790), 1 v. Vol. 1-51 were issued in 1803

SESSIONAL PAPERS

Sessional papers also known as parliamentary papers include accounts and papers, public bills, committee reports, and Command papers.
