The Univeristy of Texas Libraries Youth Collection is a working collection of children's and young adults' literature which was created to serve the certification needs of University of Texas students and to support specific graduate courses in library and information science. All Newbery and Caldecott Award books and all Newbery and Caldecott Honor Books are acquired. Books receiving other distinguished awards are acquired as possible.
The collection is located in the Perry-Castaņeda Library, on the 6th floor, section S. The collection includes fiction, non-fiction, reference and foreign language materials. A large portion of the Spanish language and English/Spanish bilingual youth literature is held in the Benson Latin American Youth Collection. The UT Libraries general collection also holds a large selection of bibliographies pertaining to youth literature. These bibliographies are useful for identifying lists of books on specific topics and appropriate for specific age groups. The simplest way to find these materials in the Library Catalog is to perform a Subject Keyword search for "juvenile literature bibliography". The search can be further narrowed by adding additional terms, for example "minorities", "religion" or "adolescent".
