Do you need information about a publicly traded U.S. company?

If you don't have a clue where to look, try:

  • The Encyclopedia of Business Information Sources
    HF 5353 E52 located at the PCL Information and Research Help Desk can be an good place to start. This resource lists information sources on business topics, including industry information. It can point you to directories, bibliographies, indexing and abstracting services, encyclopedias, dictionaries, statistical sources, trade associations and many other valuable places to start your search.

Do you need information about a private company?

Private company information is difficult to find. Since they issue no publicly traded stock, they are not required to file disclosure documents with the Security and Exchange Commission. Some large private companies do have profile information in public/private directories, but most information must come from research reports, news articles, newsletters, press releases, personal interviews, as well as published and non-published information. Small private companies have no government obligation to provide information to the public.
