2009 Library Video Contest What? Make a short video or animation promoting library resources and services. Choose from the categories on the right.

What's in it for me? You could win $100 and get your video on the Libraries web site!

When? Turn it in with a submission form by April 6th, 2009 at the PCL Information & Research Help Desk.
Rules and Requirements
  • New! We've had questions about the LBJ Library, the Harry Ransom Center, the Law Library and the Center for American History, and want to make sure you know that videos featuring those libraries are not eligible for the $100 prize.
  • All contestants must be UT undergraduates currently enrolled  for the Spring 2009 semester and may not be employed by the UT Libraries
  • Contestants must grant the University of Texas Libraries the non-exclusive rights to use their videos for teaching and promotional purposes.
  • Contestants can submit multiple entries.
  • Videos must be less than 5 minutes long, including credits.
  • Videos must be free of strong language and explicit sexual content.
  • Video must be the creation of contestants and not infringe on the copyright of a third party.
  • If you plan to film in a library please check in at the front desk with an overview of what you plan to do in the library. PLEASE respect the privacy of others in the library, and don’t film them without asking for permission first.
  • Videos must be submitted as a video data file (.wmv, .mov or .avi format).
  • Each video must be submitted on a CD-R, DVD-R, or flash drive along with a submission form, to the PCL Information and Research Help Desk by 5PM on Monday, April 6th.
  • A winner will be chosen from each category by members of the Student Library Council. The individual or group will be awarded a $100 prize.
  • Winners will be notified within two weeks of the due date.

Don't have Equipment? Video cameras are available at the Audio Visual Library on the 3rd floor of the Flawn Academic Center (FAC) , and at the Fine Arts Library in the Doty Fine Arts Building (DFA) 3.200

Video editing software
The Fine Arts Library has iMovie and Final Cut Express (with mini DV players attached), The Flawn Academic Center’s Multimedia Computer Facility has Final Cut Pro5 and Movie Maker

Library Video Contest - Categories

Videos can be submitted in the following categories.
The themes should be introduced, but be as creative as you would like to get the information across!

  • CD and DVD Collections
    • The libraries has over 40,000 CD’s and over  22,000 DVD’s and Videos
    • The music collections consist of over 40,000 CDs of many different music styles, both new and old
    • The libraries has over 22,000 DVDs and Videos,  including current and older popular movies, TV shows and documentaries. Most can be checked out, and reserve materials can be viewed in the library
  • Print/Digital collections
    • The Libraries has more than 9 million items
    • This includes books, maps, music scores, dissertations, research journals, popular magazines and newspapers, and much more in our collection.
    • The Libraries provides access to over 600 article databases and over 600,000 ebooks
  • Librarians can help you
    • You can get help with your research from librarians
    • We can help you in-person at the reference desk, using our chat service, text, phone; drop-in classes – see the Ask A Librarian dropdown link from the Libraries home page http://www.lib.utexas.edu/
