Literary criticism is the scholarly evaluation, explanation, and analysis of literature. Book reviews are not considered literary criticism. Keep in mind that literary criticism can be written at any time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in 1885 and scholars still write articles about it today.
