You can get a stack guide, which is a map of the library’s book shelves, at the library where the book is located or online. The guide will tell you exactly where the book is located in that library.

4. Check out books at the Circulation Desk with a valid ID.
Once you find the book on the shelf, take it to the Circulation Desk. You will need a valid UT ID or Courtesy, Special or Proxy Borrower Card to check out a book.

FAQs

What if the book is checked out?
If a book is checked out, the Library Catalog will indicate when it will be returned. You may place an anonymous recall on that book by selecting the Request button next to that book and logging in to your account with your EID. If you do so, the library will notify the person who has the book to return it, and will let you know via email when you can pick it up. Keep in mind that it may take at least two weeks to get a recalled book and that this is dependent on the person with the book returning it by the date requested.

What if the book has a link instead of a call number?
The University of Texas Libraries purchases electronic books (e-books) that are available online. If you see “Electronic Resource” instead of a call number, click on it to view the book online.

What if the Library Catalog does not list the book I need?
If the University of Texas Libraries does not have the book you need, you can request it for free through InterLibrary Services. You may request the book online. You may also ask us to purchase the book for the collection.
