UGS 302: The Parthenon: A Monument Worth Arguing About?
Description: In this course, students explored the controversy surrounding the Parthenon. They were required to actively participate in class discussion, write a book review and engage in a class debate about the Elgin Marbles. To stimulate class discussion, each week a different student used the Find Background Information exercise and guide to find background information about the topic being covered in class that day and lead class discussion. Students used the Find a Book exercise and guide to find a book to review, and the Find Book Reviews guide to find examples of scholarly book reviews. Finally, students used the Find an Article exercise and guide to find information to support their side for the Elgin Marbles debate.
Tips and usage ideas:
The Find Background Information exercise can be used by TA’s to promote oral presentation in discussion sections.
