What does Find it @UT do?
Find it @UT provides direct links from a database citation to the full text of the article (if available).
How do I access Find it @UT?
Some databases to which the library subscribes are Find it @UT-enabled. When you find a record in one of these databases,
click on the Find it @UT icon
. This will open a window with a menu that will take you to what full text options are available.
What databases currently have Find it @UT links?
You can easily figure out what databases are currently linking with Find it @UT by looking for
on the Databases & Indexes to Articles pages.
Why don't I see any Find it @UT links?
There may be several possible reasons. The database may not work with Find it @UT, the citation you found may not have enough metadata available to link with Find it @UT, or the Find it @UT link may hard to find. Find it @UT links will appear in different places depending on the database that you are using.
Why is the full text option not always available?
The option to link to full text is shown on the Find it @UT menu when the University of Texas Libraries has subscribed to the full text of the journal title.
If the option to link to full text is not on the menu, then the University of Texas Libraries does not license the full text for the particular title or the title may not be in full text. If the full text link is not shown, you will be encouraged to search the library catalog to find if the title is held in print.
Why is the full text option not available when I know the library has electronic access?
Find it @UT draws upon a database that tells the services when a journal is available electronically. A small number of journals still need to be added, and are currently being added. Please use the library catalog
link in the meantime to access the journal.
Why is there sometimes more than one full text option?
There is coverage overlap among our many resources so sometimes you will find that the full text is available from more than one place.
Why does the number of options in the Find it @UT menu vary?
When you click on the Find it @UT button, the system runs through the Find it @UT database to see what services are available for that particular article or citation. Only those services which are available will display. We try to offer only those service options that are available for a given title.
Why are there multiple windows?
When you click on the Find it @UT link, a menu window is generated listing all the services available for that item. When you select one of those services, a third window is generated, and it remains the window in which all activities generated from the Find it @UT menu window take place. If you choose to go from viewing the full text to checking UTNetCAT from the menu, your second choice, to check UTNetCAT, will replace your view of the full text. You would have to chose full text again from the menu if you want to go back to the full text.
I clicked on "Link to full text", but I only got to the journal's home page. Why?
Find it @UT will try to get you as close to the full text as it can. Often, because of the structure of the publisher's web site, Find it @UT can not link directly to full text. Sometimes the best Find it @UT can do is to take you to the table of contents or the journal's home page, and you'll have to navigate the publisher's site yourself to get to the full text. Essentially, a full text link in Find it @UT means that full text is available, but you may have to do some work to get to it. You can also see a list of specific linking levels for our Find it @UT-enabled resources.
What do I do when I get an error or some other "not found" message?
If the article you need is a very recent article from a journal, it's possible the article has not been loaded on the web site, so Find it @UT cannot retrieve it. Unfortunately, you have to wait for the publisher to add it to their site. Another problem could be that our Find it @UT links are wrong and need to be updated. Please let us know about any problems you may have so that we can try and fix them. You can use the Comments Form to send an email to library staff.
Can I use Find it @UT services from off campus?
Yes. You will be asked to authenticate using your UT EID just like you do with other subscription resources.
