Information Literacy for Signature Courses

Librarians in Library Instruction Services (LIS) are working with the Undergraduate Studies to integrate information literacy into the Signature Course program.  Information Literacy is one of the six requirements of a Signature Course.  By integrating the teaching of  baseline information literacy skills into freshman Signature Courses, freshmen will have the research and information evaluation skills necessary to critical inquiry. Faculty teaching other undergraduate courses will be able to assume this baseline of knowledge and build upon it.

LIS Librarians work with Signature Course faculty in a variety of ways based upon the preferences of the faculty member.  Methods for incorporating information literacy into the Signature Courses include library instruction sessions, tailored research guides and assignments, tutorials and “train the TA” models. For more information about how librarians support the Signature Courses, see the Signature Course Faculty Toolkit.
