  • Eligibility and Uses
    Am I eligible?
    InterLibrary Service (ILS) delivers loans of circulation library materials to the campus mail addresses of faculty members, staff and researchers based at The J.J. Pickle Research Campus (PRC). Loans can include circulating items from the UT Libraries or items borrowed from other universities. PRC patrons are considered an ILS Remote Delivery location because they are not located on main campus.
    What can I get?
    You can request materials owned by UT Libraries – Austin as well as items borrowed from other libraries. However, we do not send books or copy materials from the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center (HRC) or The Tarlton Law Library. Please contact these institutions directly if you would like a copy from their collections.
    Articles and book chapters will provided through the Get A Scan service and posted to the ILS server for 30 days. UT books will be retrieved and checked out to your active UT Library account.
    NOTE: UT items checked out to your library account are subject to the same fine and fee structure and recall as if you were on campus.
    Some libraries will not lend certain types of materials, making them difficult to obtain on loan. Especially hard to borrow items include: software and electronic files, audio-visual items, reference books, rare and fragile materials, bound journals and current issues, textbooks, manuscripts and archival items, bestsellers, and genealogy materials.
    Materials that do not circulate on campus cannot be sent to your remote delivery address, nor will we borrow a copy for your use. However, ILS is willing to copy selected pages from restricted material based on copyright law and UT Library guidelines.
  • Placing a Request
    How do I place an ILS PRC request?
    First-time users need to register with their UT EID and password through the ILS Login page. Register with your PRC office adddress including the UT mail code. Set your Location Status to "Pickle Research". You will only need to register once, though please note that your ILS contact information is not updated automatically with your UT Directory contact information. If you have any changes to your physical address or email address, please update it in your ILS account.
    Once you have registered, use the appropriate "New Requests" form in the left hand navigation menu to request materials. Fill out the form with the required citation information as instructed. You can use the "Notes" field for any special instructions that apply to your request. Use the "Need By" field if you require an item by a certain date. Click "Submit" at the bottom of the form to place your request.
    If you are currently registered with ILS and are requesting an article or book chapter owned by UT, you can also locate the title in the UT Catalog and use the green Get A Scan button located on the right hand side. Once logged in, most of the bibliographic information will automatically import into the request form. Fill out the remainder of the form and click "Submit" to place your request.
    What if the UT material I want to request is checked out?
    You can use the "Pick It Up" function in the UT Catalog to recall materials that are checked out. Choose PCL as the pickup location for the title (PRC patrons are not included in the main campus library pick up services). After you receive the electronic pickup notice for the item, forward it to ILSremotedelivery@lib.utexas.edu so that ILS staff can retrieve the item, check the material out, and ship it to your PRC address. The last step is to log in to your ILS account and create a new loan request to for the title you have recalled. Be sure to include "Item on Hold" in the "Notes" field of the request form.
  • Delivery
    Is it free to deliver materials to remote locations?
    There is no charge for this service at the time. If a fee is levied by a lending library, ILS will contact you with fee information prior to placing a request. Fees may also be levied if material is overdue, lost, or damaged.
    How will physical materials be sent?
    As a PRC patron, you will always receive items via campus mail to the UT mail code loaction you indicated in your ILS account registration. Loaned items will arrive in a blue book bag. Articles will be delivered to the web and a notification email will be sent to you.
  • Returns and Renewals
    How do I return loans?
    How do I return loans? PRC users may return UT items as well as material on loan from other institutions (those with the pink band) In the blue bags in which you received your items. Please remove any address labels so that the ILS address printed on the bag is visible. Give the blue bag to your Campus Mail person with your outgoing mail. You may also use the book drop at the Library Storage Facility Located on the PRC Campus. Click here for a map. Please return the empty blue bags in your outgoing campus delivery for return to PCL.
    AV items may be returned to the desingated AV slot of the LSF book drop.
    Can I renew my materials? Are there fines for overdue materials?
    UT materials can be renewed through the UT Libraries Catalog. Borrowed materials can be renewed if "Renewals Yes" is stated on the pink band surrounding the volume. Log in to ILS webpages to request a renewal and we will notify you via email of the new due date. PRC and other remote delivery users are subject to the same fine and fee structure, as well as recall as if on campus. ILS can not waive UT Libraries Circulation fines or fees.
