SCAN AND READ:
KURZWEIL 1000

This software works only with printed and typewritten material. It will not read handwritten material. The better the print copy is, the better job the program will do scanning and reading it.

  1. SCANNING AND READING INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Open the Kurzweil program by pressing the "window" key (second from left on bottom row of keyboard) to activate the start menu.
    2. Press the down arrow to move down the start menu to the Kurzweil reader, then press the "enter" key to start the program.
    3. A welcome window will appear and be read aloud. Once the window has been read, it will automatically disappear.
    4. Open the cover of the scanner located to the left of the monitor. Place the printed page you want read flush to the edge of the scanner bed. Close the scanner lid.
    5. Press the "Plus" key on the numbered keypad on the far right of the keyboard to start the scan and OCR process.
    6. The program will let you know the status of the process. You'll hear progress messages that sound something like this -- "Scanning, Please Wait," "Scanning, percentage done," "Scan Complete" and "Recognition Complete."
    7. Once the scan and recognition are complete, the page will automatically be read aloud. See below for navigation instructions.
    8. Repeat steps 4 through 6 for each page you want scanned and read.
